The case construction feels robust, with well-defined lugs that taper gracefully toward the 20mm strap. The crown, adorned with IWC’s distinctive logo, operates with the precision you’d expect from Swiss manufacturing.
The Dial
Here’s where the Mark XX truly shines. The deep blue sunburst dial creates a mesmerizing depth that shifts from navy to lighter azure depending on lighting conditions. The Arabic numerals at 12, 3, 6, and 9 are perfectly proportioned, while the railway minute track reinforces the aviation heritage.

During evening wear, reading the time at positions like 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10, and 11 o’clock proved challenging in complete darkness.
Movement and Performance
The IWC 32111 automatic movement, based on the robust Sellita SW300-1, powers the Mark XX with reliable precision. During our testing period, the watch maintained excellent accuracy, gaining approximately +3 seconds per day—well within COSC chronometer standards, though the watch isn’t officially certified.
The 120-hour power reserve is exceptionally generous for this category, allowing the watch to run through nearly five days of inactivity—impressive by any standard. The automatic winding feels smooth and positive, with a comfortable winding weight that doesn’t create excessive rotor noise during daily wear.
Wearability and Comfort
On the Wrist
At 40mm, the Mark XX occupies that sweet spot of being substantial without overwhelming most wrists. The 10.8mm thickness allows it to slide easily under shirt cuffs, while the 49mm lug-to-lug distance ensures comfortable wear across a range of wrist sizes.
The watch’s 150g weight provides a reassuring presence without fatigue during extended wear. The balance is excellent, with the weight distributed evenly across the case.
Strap Quality
The deep blue leather strap deserves particular praise.
